call for papers
Please note that the deadline for submissions has now passed.
FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS! Scandinavian Studies at the University of Edinburgh is delighted to announce the 4th Nordic Research Network conference. This two-day multidisciplinary conference on 18-19 February 2015 will bring together postgraduate students and early-career researchers based in the British Isles currently working on research topics relating to the Nordic region. The organising committee invites the submission of abstracts for papers on Nordic topics, please note the deadline of 17th November 2014. We welcome proposals from postgraduate students and early-career researchers (with three years or less of postdoctoral experience) based in the British Isles, for brief presentations (≤ 20 mins) discussing their Nordic research. Participation is not limited to those working within departments of Scandinavian Studies, and proposals covering Nordic research in all areas of the humanities and social sciences are welcome. Following the outcome of the Scottish independence referendum, and the increasing focus in Scotland on its Nordic neighbours, the conference theme will be to address the pertinent and ever-present question of ‘What happens next?’. The organising committee therefore particularly welcome proposals in light of this. Naturally, proposals outwith this theme but within the remit of the Nordic Research Network are also encouraged and will receive due consideration. Proposals may wish to address, but must by no means be limited to: · The aftermath of ‘landmark’ historical events; · The addressing, or not addressing, of the question ‘What happens next?’ in literature in the form of sequels, parody, and pastiche; · Developments in the world of art and music; · Philological developments and their impact; · The effect of uncertainty regarding the future – in particular reflections on new and changing roles in academia, research, and publishing. In addition to conventional conference papers, the organisers are happy to consider alternative and interactive presentation formats beyond the traditional conference paper presentation. Examples include presentations given in Pecha Kucha format, video, group panel discussion, roundtable, etc. Those wishing to submit a proposal for a presentation in an alternative format are encouraged to contact the organising committee prior to final submission. All presentations will be followed by discussion and feedback in a supportive atmosphere. If you wish to present at this conference, please send a title, abstract (≤200 words) and a short biographical note including your institutional affiliation (≤50 words) to [email protected] by 17 November 2014. The organising committee will review all submissions, and you will be notified of the outcome shortly thereafter. |
